This systematic review aimed to analyze scientific evidence published between 2020 and 2025 regarding the impact of traditional games on early childhood development, focusing on three fundamental dimensions: cognitive, cultural, and socio-emotional. Twenty-eight open-access empirical studies were selected based on defined inclusion and exclusion criteria applied to the Scopus, ScienceDirect, Redalyc, and EBSCO databases. The analysis identified common patterns, emerging approaches, and gaps in the scientific literature. The results indicate that traditional games foster cognitive development by enhancing language, memory, attention, and logical thinking; strengthen cultural development through the transmission of ancestral knowledge, community practices, and identity-related values; and contribute to socio-emotional development by promoting empathy, emotional self-regulation, cooperation, and a sense of belonging. Furthermore, research gaps were identified, specifically a geographic concentration of studies and a lack of integration among the analyzed dimensions. It is concluded that traditional games are effective pedagogical tools for promoting holistic child development and should be systematically integrated into educational programs.
Keywords: Traditional games; early childhood, cognitive development; cultural development; socioemotional development.
